Undo and Redo throughout the Client

Undo and Redo allow you to move backward and forward through changes made during your current session. Use these commands to quickly reverse actions or reapply changes as you work.

Undo is available across all apps (Model, Discover, Formulate, Tabulate, Present, Publish, and Illustrate), and can be used to reverse changes including updates to formatting.

About Undo and Redo

Undo and Redo help you safely experiment with changes by tracking your actions during a session. You can undo recent actions or redo actions that were undone, as long as the session remains active.

  • Undo and Redo actions are tracked per session.
  • Saving your work does not interrupt the undo/redo history. This means that, after saving, you can still undo and redo your recent changes.
  • The history is cleared when your session ends. This means that you cannot undo a change that happened before you closed your discovery once you re-open it.

Note: Undo and Redo do not recover changes made in previous sessions.

Undo Formatting

Formatting changes, such as changes to fonts, colors, and styles, can be undone in a stepwise fashion. Each change is tracked separately, allowing individual undo and redo actions. This even includes complex changes, such as changing which theme is used by a discovery.

Linked Content Items

After saving, linked items reflect the saved state, even if that state was reached by undoing changes. Linked items do not preserve the undo history used to reach that state.

Status Bar Controls

The Undo and Redo controls appear above the canvas in the status bar (orange highlight below):

  • Undo: Reverts the most recent action. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Z on your keyboard.
  • Redo: Reapplies the most recently undone action. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Y on your keyboard.

The Undo arrow becomes enabled when an action has been undertaken that can be undone. The Redo arrow becomes enabled after an Undo.

Using Undo and Redo

Undo an action

To undo an action, press Ctrl+Z on your keyboard or select Undo in the Status Bar. You can Undo repeatedly if you want to undo multiple steps. There are some actions that you cannot undo, including saving a file. If there is currently no action to undo in this session, the Undo option in the Status bar becomes disabled (grayed out).

Tip: If you're not able to undo all the changes you wish to, you may be able to restore a previous version of the file instead.

Redo an action

To redo something you've undone, press Ctrl+Y on your keyboard or select Redo in the Status bar. (The Redo button is only enabled after you've undone a previous action.)

Reset Formatting

Discover, Present, and Publish only. You can undo formatting changes in bulk using Reset Formatting on the Design ribbon or the Reset to Default Styles option in the Formatting panel. These options restore formatting to the selected theme or, for options that aren't theme-based, revert them to the default.

The Reset Formatting option is also available in Illustrate.
